Topic Tuesday: Too Much Action?

topictuesI’ve been told, among other things (mostly lovely, which is very awesome) my books are so fast paced sometimes readers feel overwhelmed. As though–in the case of Reid in RUN (book one of The Hunted series)–such speed makes it impossible for them to connect with or feel compassion for the character.

I tend to be an action writer–I hate draggy chapters with too much melodrama and not enough “turn the page right now I have to know what happens”. But, to be fair, I’m not the reader in this instance.

So, tell me what you think–would you rather some rest in a post-apocalyptic world or in a forest being chased by monsters? Or do you prefer to run along with the characters, barely having time to catch your breath?

Happy Tuesday!

I am a YA and Middle Grade novelist on the East Coast of Canada. Look for The Ghost Boy of MacKenzie House, (Acorn Press); The Hunted series, plus many, many more as I fulfill my dream of world literary domination.
